Electronic labels for production and logistics

The battery-free e-paper label, also known as the electronic shelf label, is increasingly being used in modern production and logistics processes. Information such as order and product data, QR codes, storage locations and more can be flexibly designed and transferred to the e-paper via NFC. The labels can be written on as often as required and in a short space of time, without the need to print paper labels. By dispensing with batteries and paper, this solution is also sustainable. The combination of an e-paper tag with a PDA or MES system, for example, offers enormous advantages in terms of productivity and quality.

E-paper label – the efficient and digital order paper

The e-paper label in combination with a PDA or MES system is the ideal solution for paperless production. The e-paper label acts as a digital order paper. Changes to parts lists, quantities or delivery dates do not require order documents to be replaced or reprinted. The unique identifier of the e-paper tag ensures that the correct order is always loaded from the PDA or MES system, which prevents mix-ups. The e-paper always displays the current live data from the ERP system.

Existing boxes can be easily retrofitted with the e-paper label. When setting up material, the box can be flexibly labeled with various information, such as the article number of the contents, the associated production order or the storage location for refilling in production. Marking and identifying the container is extremely simple and there is no need for time-consuming label handling. In addition, there is no need for a printer infrastructure or consumables.

With the Electronic Shelf Label, both dynamic and static storage locations can be flexibly labeled without the need to print or replace labels. The stored information and barcodes are legible at all times and, unlike paper labels, are not subject to abrasion or ageing.
